It's the Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon & Fashion show sponsored by Stanley Korshak and benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphomia Society, the first big luncheon in 2007. About 1,000 ladies joined in the wine and hors d'oeuvres pre-luncheon gathering, beginning at 10:30 in the morning, bidding on silent auction items and cathing up on news of the new year.
Overheard: "If I see one more Tory Burch wrap dress with flats, I'm going to hurl."
At 11:45 the doors were opened and everyone took their seats. The most touching part of the program was the Spirit of Tom Landry Character Award recipient, 11 year old Matthew Willis. In his video interview, he told the story of his father's dying of leukemia when he was just two years old. Since then, he joined in the Links Fore Leukemia Golf Tournament which was co-founded by his father, Jim Willis, seeing it as a way to connect with his dad.
In 2004 Matthew raised over 12,00 and received a donation from golf legend Jack Nicklaus. To date, he has raised a total of 30,000 for the tournament.
After a round of applause, Alicia Landry stepped up to the podium with football legend and Cowboys veteran, Rayfield Wright, with a special surpirse: she presented Matthew a set of Tom Landry's personal golf clubs. The look on Matthew's face showed total surprise. Needless to say, standing ovation and tears in our eyes.
The fashion show featured fashions from RODARTE, Laura and Kate Mulleavy, straight off the runway, looks from the Fall 2007 collection previewed in New York fashion week, just the week before, plus styles from the current Spring 2007 collection.
Jan Strimple produced the fabulous fashion show.
Some highlights: Women's fashions: Hair styles of some teased and some sleek '60s french twist. Many of these clothes are wearable, flirty, fun. A smart move: brown jersey flirty dress with a drop front slit from the neckline with a draped back, but instead of the back being exposed, there was a panel of see-through material. Very interesting.
Mens fashions: The minute the men took the stage, the background shown on the huge screens was of peppermint candy. Fun idea. Who is the model who looks like Saaid in LOST? Wow. Jeans, no shirt - only abs under a leather jacket open to the waist. Another black leather jacket, see-through black silk shirt and black slacks. Chocolate pin-striped suits with lime green handkerchief and tie.
Lots of fun! Comments
