What: The Mosaic Gala is an annual event to raise awareness of human rights abuses in our communities and to honor individuals working to address them. The Champion of Human Rights Award is given to recognize the extraordinary dedication of individuals who strive to ensure the protection of the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms to which all human beings are entitled.
Attire: Cocktail
Event: This event will host 300 guests and will sell out quickly. We will honor filmmaker and anti-trafficking activist, Libby Spears. Libby’s background in social issue film making and commercial production helps bridge gaps and provides access to places and people that would otherwise never converge or be seen. Her projects provide hope for trafficked people worldwide. Guests will enjoy dinner catered by Stock & Barrel, cocktails, a casino, a silent auction, a raffle drawing and live music by DJ Andy Austin.
Libby Spears In 2001, Libby Spears gained firsthand knowledge of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. Her undertakings in South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines led her to create Playground: The Child Sex Trade in America, the film that uncovered sex trafficking among children. Executive produced by George Clooney, Lauren Embrey and many others, Playground exposes the pervasiveness of trafficking in the United States. The film premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival and has been screened around the world, including numerous times on Capitol Hill. Libby has also spearheaded several Congressional hearings on child sex trafficking that lead to the introduction of the first piece of federal legislation dealing with domestic minors of sex trafficking.
Andy Austin: Andy Austin, born and raised in Dallas, is an entertainer by heart, choice and trade. He brings originality, fun and life to any event. Andy is also co-owner of LeForce Entertainment.
Beneficiary: Mosaic is a safe haven for survivors of human rights abuses, including human trafficking and domestic violence. Mosaic is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers free shelter, legal representation, counseling and support services to clients in more than 25 languages. Since it was founded in 1993, Mosaic has impacted more than 70,000 lives and has transformed North Texas into a community of hope.
Mosaic’s Anti-Trafficking Program was the first anti-trafficking program in Texas, and Mosaic House was the region’s first emergency housing designed to serve both abused and trafficked women and children.
