September 21-23: Lyric Stage presents Disney’s NEWSIES
About NEWSIES and Lyric Stage’s new season:
Lyric Stage opens its 26th season September 21-23, 2018 at Dallas’ historic Majestic Theater with Disney’s NEWSIES. Set in turn-of-the century New York City, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, NEWSIES features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots, La Cage aux Folles). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the entire family.
The Broadway production received 23 major theatrical nominations – including eight Tony Award nominations – and won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Score and Choreography.
Anthony Fortino returns to Lyric Stage as Jack Kelly with Jocelyn Hansen as Katherine. Also in the cast are Parker Gray, Zak Reynolds, Patrick Shukis, Ben Sherman, Domanick Hubbard, David Postlewate, David Midkiff, Jill Nicholas, Jacob Hemsath, Alex Heika, Dakota Davis, Samuel Ea, Stephen Newton, Gabi Roller, Ania Lyons, Andrew Bullard, Joshua Wilson, Ryan Nuss, Griffin Shoemaker, Christopher Curtis, Hunter Lewis, Doug Fowler, Stan Graner, Austin Norsworth, Sonny Franks, Mark Tam Quach, Kyle Hughes, Amber Flores, Feleceia Benton, Cooper Carter, Patrick Bilbow, Ivy Bilbow, Jack Doke and Tristin Thomas.
Piloting Lyric Stage’s production of NEWSIES are director Noah Putterman, music director Bruce Greer and choreographer Katharine Quinn.
