Announcement Party: The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Highland Park Village and Al G. Hill, Jr. Family presents the 2017 Fashion Show & Luncheon – Fashion Is Art – You Are The Canvas

One of the clues there was excitement going on inside the Market at Highland Park Village was the eight-foot tall logo and sign framed in gold announcing The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show and Luncheon presented by Highland Park Village and Al G. Hill, Jr. Family on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 placed at the entrance where passers-by could not miss its towering presence.
D’Andra Simmons, Fashion Show and Luncheon chair and Kathie King, Auxiliary president, were joined by Kathie’s daughter, Joyann King, editor of HarpersBAZAAR.com, who will be the luncheon’s emcee, as they welcomed friends and family for this exciting reveal party.
Presentations began as D’Andra introduced Major Barbara Rich, Associate DFW Metroplex Commander, who spoke about The Salvation Army’s mission and how the Women’s Auxiliary supports its cause as a fundraising and volunteer service group which has many projects and programs available for its members and volunteers to actively participate.
Guests’ hearts went out to D’Andra as she shared her personal experience with domestic violence and how she has turned that around in a positive way to empower herself and encourage others as she chairs the Fashion Show and Luncheon. The crowd’s ovation rocked the room.
Music played and curtains drew back as the honorary chairs smiled and strutted through another life-sized picture frame, revealing Elisa Summers and Heather Washburne. The theme Fashion Is Art – You Are the Canvas , was painted live by artist Carlo Nicholls of Planet Productions, who has been working with The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show and Luncheon team for almost 10 years. Also receiving a round of applause was the logo’s designer, Lynn Townsend Dealey. All of this fabulous orchestration was produced by Jan Strimple, who will also produce the Fashion Show and Luncheon’s fashion show.
Joyann spoke about how wonderful it was to be back home in Dallas and especially participating in this fabulous luncheon on behalf of BAZAAR, which really does help people in need.
Everyone was encouraged to gather their gently used couture items to donate to The Salvation Army. Special thanks went to Lynn Dealey for the invitation design, Lombardi Concepts Catering for the delicious food, Pioneer Wines for the beverages, Planet Productions and media sponsors PaperCity, The Park Cities News/The Waters Family and My Sweet Charity.
The Fashion Show and luncheon has moved to a Tuesday this year, May 2nd at a new location, The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. This exciting morning begins with reception refreshments, shopping in the Chic Boutique and bidding on silent auction items, some exclusive to this event. Everyone is seated for brief remarks, tributes and a presentation followed by a fabulous runway fashion show produced by Jan Strimple and bidding ensues! Then luncheon is served.

About The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary: The Dallas Women’s Auxiliary is the local expression of a world-wide movement that seeks spiritual redemption and social rehabilitation of those it serves. It functions as a fundraising and volunteer service group, and have many projects and programs that can satisfy an eagerness to volunteer.
All Executive Committee members and Committee Chairs are volunteers, and there are a variety of ways to serve. Some of our committees include Arrangements, Back to School, mass mailings, Spring Fling, Christmas programs – Angel Tree, Kettles, Distribution and Santa Sacks — as well as serving as a liaison for our community service programs.
Volunteer activities abound at the Auxiliary. Every year, we fill backpacks with school supplies, gifts and essentials in our Santa Sacks at Christmas, and summer-time necessities for our Camper Care Kits. There is plenty of work to do at the Angel Tree and Kettles at NorthPark, and distribution of the Angel Tree gifts at The Salvation Army Christmas and Disaster Center. For those who are into fashion, sorting and pricing donated couture clothing for the annual Fashion Show & Luncheon is great fun (as is attending the Fashion Show!) and working at the WEARhouse after the show.
The ladies of the Women’s Auxiliary have a good time, work hard, and live by the mission of “Doing the Most Good.”
