Amsterdam Falafelshop Celebrates First Anniversary May 26

Amsterdam Falafalshop, 2651 Commerce Street in Deep Ellum, marks their first anniversary with a special party Friday, May 26. Owner and Managing Partner Chris Kline is celebrating with a special thank you party for fans who have made the Dallas transplant of the original D.C. store so successful. The party is open to the public and will last from 4-7 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come out to enjoy live music on the patio, $1 pint beers, $1 falafel bowls and sandwiches, and $1 off Shawarma bowls and sandwiches. There will be a raffle with chances to win catering trays, gift cards and more.

Amsterdam Falafalshop features European fast-casual cuisine for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian patrons. Specialties include Falafel, a traditional street food that originated in the Middle East. Brought to Amsterdam centuries ago, it is made from chickpeas with added spices and deep fried into Falafal balls.

Shawarma is made from lamb shavings after slow roasting on a vertical spit, then marinated overnight and stacked for serving. Frieten’, European or Dutch style twice cooked fries, are served with Dutch mayonnaise, spicy peanut sauce and curried ketchup as dipping sauces.

A toppings bar features such relishes and add-ons as Baba Ganoush, Hummus, red cabbage, Turkish salad, yellow and pink pickles, and a seemingly endless variety of add-ons for your bowl or Pita bread sandwich.

Amsterdam Falafelshop opened their Deep Ellum location May 13, 2016. The concept was inspired by the falafelshops found throughout Amsterdam. The first U. S. location opened in 2004 in Washington, D.C. Kline and his business partners, all army war veterans, opened the Deep Ellum store after spending time abroad. That is where they fell in love with the Middle-Eastern cuisine.

Amsterdam Falafelshop is a mixture of different cultures and tastes, which owners say serves “good food, booze, humor, peace and love.”
