The Venetian Room at Fairmont Dallas Needs Your Memorabilia!

Fairmont Dallas has been at the center of the Dallas community since its grand opening in 1969.  At the heart of the hotel is the historic Venetian Room, the storied space whose grand opening featured Jack Jones performing on stage to a sold-out crowd.   Another packed audience attended the Venetian Room performance shown above.  If you know who the lovely lady shown on stage could be, please let us know!

To celebrate the Venetian Room’s history, and commemorate the opening of the newly renovated space, Fairmont Dallas is seeking memorabilia from its storied past.  If you have any photos or show programs, favors from charity events, or maybe pressed wedding flowers from a celebration held in the room, the best pieces will be placed in a time capsule.  The capsule will be buried under the  stage. The time capsule memorabilia will be displayed and then placed under the stage at a private preview of the renovated Venetian Room on September 15, 2016.  Anyone who provides an item that’s included in the capsule will be invited to the private preview event.

The Venetian Room  (sister show room to the Venetian Room at Fairmont San Francisco) showcased a variety of performers on its stage. With its 14 chandeliers, gold moldings and murals painted in Italy, it became the premier setting for intimate, cabaret-style entertainment.   Considered by many to be the best venue between New York and Las Vegas, the Venetian Room’s A-list entertainers included Carol Channing, Eartha Kitt, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, the Gatlin Brothers, Sonny & Cher, Bernadette Peters, Lou Rawls, Frank Sinatra Jr., Johnny Mathis, Jerry Lewis, Peggy Lee, Tina Turner, Ginger Rogers and Jose Feliciano, among others.

After changing over to an event venue in the 1990s, The Venetian Room continued hosting weddings, graduation celebrations and charity events. The celebrated stage is still a focal point of the new Venetian Room with its enhanced ceiling moldings, crystal chandeliers, and modern accents.  To share memorabilia for the time capsule, please drop off items to the Hotel concierge desk or mail to: Sara Stolpe, Social Catering Manager, at Fairmont Dallas, 1717 N. Akard St., Dallas, TX 75201. For more information about the memorabilia search, please call Sara Stolpe at 214-720-5275. For more information about Fairmont Dallas, please visit fairmont.com/Dallas.
