Feb. 7: Food In Fashion: Runway Show, Cooking Competition, Auction Highlight Food In Fashion Event

Greater Dallas Restaurant Association combines cuisine with couture to benefit public schools program

Dallas, TX: Stunning clothes, chef-driven cuisines, and a really good cause will unite from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, when the second Food in Fashion extravaganza takes place at 3015 at Trinity Groves.

The event is sponsored by the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association. With music provided by Durty Laundry, it comprises three activities in one:

A RUNWAY SHOW, which features innovative fashion designs that incorporate food, or food-service items, from local restaurants. WFAA-TV anchor Ron Corning is the emcee.

New this year: The number of designers and models has increased from 10 to 15, due to the overwhelming response to last year’s runway show. The restaurants whose food and food-service items will appear in the runway fashions this year include: Asian Mint, The Old Monk, La Madeleine, Cheesecake Royale, and Golden Chick) (see full list below).

THE PROSTART CULINARY COMPETITION, which pits against each other several cooking teams made up of Dallas ISD board trustees and culinary education students enrolled in the ProStart programs embedded within eight Dallas ISD high schools.

New this year: The team producing the appetizers deemed most tasty by those attending Food in Fashion will receive the FreshPoint Cup. The traveling trophy is sponsored by FreshPoint, North America’s largest wholly owned produce distributor.

A SILENT AUCTION, offering more than 60 select items to the highest bidders.

New this year: The silent auction will accept bids over the Internet from anyone who registers on the Food in Fashion website (foodinfashion.org). Also, joining the silent auction will be a live auction for a package of luxury items and experiences worth over $2,000 (details following).

Although all VIP tickets for Food in Fashion have sold out, general admission tickets ($68.90 seated and $37.10 standing) are available at  foodinfashion.org. All proceeds from Food in Fashion go to the Dallas ISD ProStart programs, via the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit.
