From Brice Beaird:
Thoughts on James Taylor

The first time the needle dropped on James Taylor’s Apple Records album I was blown away. That was almost 60 years ago, and his music continues to play in my life, inspiring my songwriting and encouraging me to keep playing my music, and his.  James Taylor is an American Classic and I feel a responsibility to keep his music alive, as we will at Buckley Park, July 17.  We’ll be playing all his classics as well as some of the great arrangements to several of the songs from his Covers album.  People say I sound a lot like James, although I try not to do that, but it’s just how I sing.  Jim Olson, who makes James’s  Olson guitars, heard one of my CD’s and told James he sounds a lot like Brice Beaird.  I have met with James on two occasions.  He is one of the nicest, most humble musicians I’ve had the pleasure to meet.  Talking to him was like catching up with a dear friend that I’ve known for a long time. He just makes you feel that way.

Bio:

Born and raised in Dallas, singer-songwriter Brice Beaird began writing songs when he was ten years old.  With the help of his musical mentor, world-renowned church choirmaster, Dr. Paul Thomas, he gained a true appreciation for classical music, songwriting and performing, singing lead parts in church productions with the The Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  In high school he teamed with famed Texas singer/songwriter Willis Alan Ramsey and continued writing and performing.

After graduating from Texas Tech University, Brice co-founded the very successful rock group, The Coconuts, and toured the southwest while becoming increasingly popular with college campuses and local club venues. The band’s efforts eventually took them to the stage of the Troubadour in LA.  During this time, Jimmy Gilmer, President of United Artists Publishing, signed Brice to a songwriting contract in Nashville.

When prospects for a major record deal faded in Los Angeles, Beaird returned to Dallas to open his own advertising agency while continuing to write music.  Through his music efforts with his church and a local acoustic group in Dallas, Brice was able to perform his songs and realize their popularity, which led to the production of his first CD, Another Side, released in December, 2001 and co-produced by Milo Deering.  The response to his CD opened doors to travel, playing venues in Texas and Colorado and opening shows for Robert Earl Keen, Willis Alan Ramsey and Karla Bonoff.

In December, 2009, Brice released his second CD, Now Appearing.  He still owns and manages the ad agency, and his writing connects to commercial music compositions for clients such as Texas Land and Cattle and Lone Star Steakhouse, where he can be heard in major markets throughout the country.  He is also scheduling more shows and festivals to promote his music.  His songwriting efforts continue to take on new dimension writing and collaborating with other writers at all points between Dallas and Nashville.

Brice Beaird brings a refreshing twist to his original music, woven with stories that will make you laugh and warm your heart. He also adds some cover material with his special arrangements including artists that have influenced his own writing such as James Taylor, Keb Mo, Paul Simon, the Beatles, and Crosby Still and Nash.
