An evening of music, dance, and international cuisine brings together students and families to honor cultural heritage

The Compass School of Texas brought the world together at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at its annual International Fair, an immersive celebration of global cultures that united students, families, and staff in exploration, learning, and connection.

Hosted in the inspiring setting of the museum, the evening showcased traditions from 20 countries through vibrant cultural displays, performances, and authentic cuisine, creating a dynamic environment that reflected the global spirit of the Compass community.

Designed to promote global awareness, cultural pride, and cross-cultural understanding, the Compass International Fair has become a cherished tradition for the school. This year’s event featured family-hosted, interactive country booths representing South Africa, Tanzania, China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Argentina, Norway, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Chile, Peru, and Venezuela. Each booth offered a personal and meaningful look into heritage through traditional attire, artifacts, crafts, artwork, music, and cuisine.

The evening began with a spirited student parade, followed by dance and musical performances by each grade, setting the tone for an engaging showcase of immersive cultural stations. Families then flew around the world exploring each of the booths, which shared traditional recipes, stories, and heirlooms, creating a multi-generational exchange that highlighted the richness and diversity of the Compass community.

From savoring delicacies like the popular Turkish dish, sigara böreği, to experiencing the artistry of henna and Chinese calligraphy to crafting a Chilean Run-Run, students gained a deeper understanding of cultures from around the globe in a hands-on, experiential way. Highlights of the evening also included a lively performance by Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble, whose rhythms had the crowd on its feet and encouraged everyone to join in the celebration.

The International Fair celebrates the diversity within the student body and Compass’s broader commitment to global education and immersive learning. Through daily Spanish instruction, a Spanish Spelling Bee, and a culturally integrated curriculum, Compass encourages students to become curious, compassionate, and globally-minded individuals. Head of School Shelly Sender said, “Our families bring the world to our doorstep, and our students carry that curiosity with them every day.”

The Compass School of Texas remains committed to broadening students’ perspectives and celebrating community as a core value. Hosting the International Fair at the Frontiers of Flight Museum added a meaningful dimension to the evening, reinforcing the school’s dedication to exploration, discovery, and global connection.
